Device Migration — Moving Everything From Your Old Computer to Your New One
Got a new computer? The hardest part isn’t buying it — it’s the days of frustration that follow when your files, bookmarks, saved passwords, email accounts and settings are all still stuck on the old machine. Mobile Techs handles the whole move for you: we back up everything from the old computer, note exactly which apps and settings you rely on, then set up the new one and bring it all across — so you sit down to a machine that feels like yours, ready to work, not a blank slate you have to rebuild from memory.
We migrate between any combination of Windows, Mac and Linux, for both homes and businesses — a single replacement laptop, or a whole office of new machines rolled out together. Every migration follows our internal checklist of the most common apps and data, then we adjust it to match exactly what you actually use, because no two setups are the same. Nothing important gets left behind, and nothing gets lost in the shuffle. Get in touch for a free consultation.
What We Bring Across
Files & Folders
Documents, photos, music, videos, downloads and desktop — every personal file copied across and put back where you expect it, including the folders tucked away in odd places that people usually forget.
Browser Bookmarks & Profiles
Bookmarks, history, open tabs, extensions and saved sites from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Brave — your whole browsing setup moved across so the new machine picks up right where the old one left off.
Saved Passwords & Credentials
Saved logins, browser-stored passwords, Wi-Fi keys and password-manager vaults migrated securely — so you’re not locked out of your own accounts on day one. Handled carefully, and we always recommend a password manager going forward.
Email, Contacts & Calendars
Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail accounts, local mail archives (PST/OST/mbox), signatures, rules, contacts and calendars — reconnected and imported so your mail just works.
App Settings & Local Config
The configuration that lives on the machine — application preferences, templates, licence keys, signatures, printer setups and custom settings — noted and recreated so your apps behave the way you’re used to.
Installed Applications
We inventory every app on the old machine, note its version and configuration, then reinstall the ones you need on the new one — licensed software reactivated and set up, not just left as a list for you to chase.
How the Migration Works
1
Review & Plan
We start with our standard migration checklist — the apps and data most people use — then sit down with you to add anything specific to your setup and flag what you no longer need. You approve the plan before we touch anything.
2
Back Up & Export
Working through the checklist, we take a full backup of the old machine and export each item — files, bookmarks, credentials, mail, and app configuration — all tracked in our internal management portal so nothing is missed and everything is accounted for.
3
Set Up the New Machine
We complete the initial setup and create your user profile properly — regional settings, account sign-in, updates applied and the machine brought fully up to date — laying a clean foundation before any data goes on.
4
Install & Import
We install your applications and import all the exported data into the new machine — files restored, bookmarks and credentials loaded, mail reconnected and settings recreated — ticking off every item on the checklist as it’s done.
5
Verify & Hand Over
We check everything opens, logs in and works — then walk you through the new machine so you’re comfortable with it. Any quick tweaks are sorted on the spot before we call it done.
6
Safe Retention of the Old Data
Your backup is kept safely for an agreed period after handover, so if you realise weeks later that one more file or setting is needed, it’s still there — and we can securely wipe the old device when you’re ready to pass it on.
The Checklist Approach
A Proven Default Checklist
Every migration starts from our pre-defined checklist covering the most frequently used apps and data — browsers, email, office suites, accounting software, cloud storage and more — driven from our internal management portal so the common items are never forgotten.
Tailored to Your Setup
No two migrations are the same, so the checklist is adjusted for each job — adding your specialised or industry-specific software, your particular data locations, and anything unusual — and trimming what doesn’t apply.
Nothing Falls Through the Cracks
Because each item is tracked and ticked off in the portal, you get a repeatable, accountable process — not a rushed copy-paste that misses your email signature, that one licence key, or the folder you only open twice a year.
Consistent Across a Fleet
Rolling out new machines to a whole team? The same checklist keeps every migration consistent, so staff get a familiar, standardised setup and nothing varies from one desk to the next.
Why Have Us Do It
Save Yourself Days of Hassle
Skip the evenings of hunting for downloads, resetting passwords and discovering three weeks later that something didn’t come across. We do it once, properly, so you can just get on with things.
Your Data Handled Safely
Credentials and personal data are handled with care throughout, and the old device is only wiped when you say so — with a secure erase when you’re ready to sell, donate or recycle it.
On-Site or Remote
On-site across the Gold Coast and Brisbane, or handled remotely and by post Australia-wide — whichever suits, with minimal disruption to your day or your business.
Backed by Ongoing Support
Migrating a fleet or want someone to keep it all running afterwards? Pair it with a Managed IT contract for onboarding, offboarding and day-to-day support.
Whether it’s one new laptop or a whole office of them, we’ll move everything across cleanly and make sure you land on your feet. Contact us to book your device migration — no jargon, no obligation.
